today the malian musician ali farka touré died at 66 after a long disease. touré was known as "the african john lee hooker". his african blues (electric guitar, mostly african lyrics) got noticed in world music communities via his 1987 breakthrough album ali farka touré. he also collaborated with ry cooder on his 1994 album talking timbuktu.
