artist turns synagogue into gas chamber

today the spanish artist santiago sierra turned a german synagogue into a gas chamber. the synagogue in the city of pulheim is out of use since 1920, and has become an art event location since the early 90's. for his installation, entitled 245 m³, sierra connected the exhausts of six cars on the outside of the synagogue, via black tubes with the synagogue. visitors were allowed to visit the synagogue one by one, wearing gas masks.
the exhibition ends on april 30th.
